Due to the crazy ass writers strike that is going on, Variety reports that CBS may rely on its "Big Brother" as a strike contingency. The reality show, usually a summer staple, has started staffing up for an in-season run that could be on the air as soon as February.
Indeed, in anticipation of a strike, the network quietly began casting for the next edition of the show a few weeks ago.
Executive producer Allison Grodner is also said to be working on a new creative twist for the Julie Chen-hosted series, in which a group of strangers live together in a house for three months.
The trade adds that the next edition of "Big Brother" might actually use celebrities, as opposed to ordinary people.

Mike "Boogie" Malin gets arrested.

NOVEMBER 1--Our old friend Mike "Boogie" Malin, the reality television veteran who last year won $500,000 on CBS's "Big Brother," was arrested earlier this week for reportedly assaulting a waitress at a Denver sports bar. Malin, a New Hampshire native who went to college in Boston, was apparently in Colorado for the Red Sox-Rockies World Series. Malin, 37, was booked into the Denver sheriff's lockup, from which he bonded out Tuesday. Malin is pictured below in a mug shot provided by the Denver Police Department. While the photo crops out most of his shirt, it appears that Malin, a Los Angeles restaurateur, may have been wearing a Red Sox away jersey when he got popped.
WHAT THE HELL is going on in Big Brother Land this week!? I hope Doctor Will can bail him out.

Big Brother Rape- Big Brother Africa Sex Assault Controversy
While this blog was started with the purpose of covering the "American" version of Big Brother, from time to time we will post relevant news from the other versions. Especially since it is the offseason for our version, it's a good time to post some news. Actually this is an understatement. This news is pretty big and frontpage news on major sites.
Apparently Big Brother Africa ( in South Africa) possibly had a televised rape/sexual assault. Richard, a 24 year old film student, manually penetrated Ofunneka, a 29 year old medical assistant, while she was intoxicated. Supposedly she was shown unconscious ( I have not seen the clips) and viewers ( and local law) consider this rape. Producers dispute viewer accounts.
There is always a dispute as far as what constitutes rape and whether a drunk person can consent and to what point. Obviously a pretty controversial moment in the history of Big Brother, an international television juggernaut.
